Smart Air Conditioining

I was not so smart and ordered a Smart without Air. I am on the list to get one of the first cars in Atlanta and don't want to get bumped way down. They tell me the car has already been produced.
How big of a deal is it to install afterwards? Any thoughts?

Operational Hint on A/C

Not sure if the A/C on the 451's is the same as the 450's, but there is a suggestion in the owner's manual of the 450's that is well worth noting. They suggest running your A/C for about 15 minutes/week during the winter months. If you don't do this, there is a good chance you will LOSE YOUR CHARGE on the A/C over the winter, leaving you without cold air the first time you need it in the spring. The charging is not that expensive, but its good to know you can avoid it by going through this weekly drill in the winter. I know this is true from personal experience !

If t looses its charge, that means that teh freon is leaking out, meaning it is an environmental hazard. I remember this because we had an A/C on our house that the tech would just fill about once every other day until the company was fined from the EPA for letting it leak out. I doubt that the legal smarts are like that.

I have read that before actually building the vehicle that they would call the buyer to confirm the A/C delete. Have they called you yet?

That's is what I recall hearing that too - I think it was in that dealer document.

No call...And I beleive the cars are ready to be delivered in Atl. I wish they would have called. I did not delete the air but did not select it on the options. Who knows maybe it will be installed but I have not had great communications from them.

Air con.

JSouth. I understand the air con is installed into the panel unit prior to installing the whole dash unit on the production line. This could bode Ill for shop costs.

I think I would try to snag an orphan and let that car go.
