I wonder...

I heard a long time ago that running your defroster also served to circulate the air cond. mechanisms.

If true, then one wouldn't need to remember to turn on the air in the dead of winter...<hopeful grin>

Bet it's not true, though.

many cars use the AC on defrost automatically. Our smarts are not one of them. It really helps to clear the windows, you do need to hit the button. There is lubricating oil mixed with the refrigerant and running the system makes sure it stays mixed and coats the inside of the system keeping the seals in good shape and the refrigerant in. Sorry for being boring

That's good info, Karl. That's the kind of pointer I keep in my personal "tips and tricks" folder.

Are you sure? This sounds like it comes on with the defrost position.

From the manual (page 152): Do not turn the air distribution control
permanently to positionP. The air condi
tion switches on independently of other set
tings. The indicator lamp on switch 2 then
does not come on.
The vehicle’s fuel consumption increases and
the driving performance may be influenced.

Orphan.

Jsouth. Orphan cars are being sold to people just in off the street. Have all your ducks in order and expect an instant purchase.

You have 30 days after the dealer contacts you to claim the car you ordered, so you have lots of time to find that orphan. You may have to go out of state to get one.

I would first talk to my dealer and tell them I screwed up, and ask them what they will do to help me out. Do this before they call you.

Lots of orphans are being purchased by folks on this list. Do a search and gather more info.

I can't imagine a non AC car in an Atlanta summer.

Good luck.
A2Jack.

Here's an A/C question. Whenever I have my A/C set to 'recirculate' and then shut off the smart, the A/C then reverts to intake outside air. Is there a reprogramming option that would make 'recirculate' the standard setting? Since this was not covered in the manual, I expect if it were possible, it would only be a dealer-programmable option.

I think the automatic reversion to "outside air" is a standard protocol. My recent vehicles (Subaru, Hondas) all did it. I think "recirculate" is intended to be a temporary, manual interjection for quick heat, quick cool, and "keep out the dust and truck diesel exhaust."

Also wish the fan had an infinitely-variable speed. Even the #1 (lowest) setting is a little too high-speed and loud for many circumstances.

Yeah, I know... picky, picky. Hehe.
