I find it humorous that the logic "since it was made in America, it's an American car". How so ?
Honda, Toyota, et al, built plants in America to ease tensions about Americans buying "foreign cars" and lower tariffs. We were buying SO many of their cars they thought that if we put them together, we'd be more accepting, since the autoworkers were drawing a paycheck.
Their plan worked.
The profits still go back to Japan. Ain't a damn thing American about Honda or Toyota.
Mercedes did the same thing.
The smart is a German car built in France. That doesn't make it a French car !!
It seems to me that this issue can be summed up with three statements.
1. The person that puts the show together should be allowed to create the rules for the show.
2. If the rules are too restrictive the show will not be a success and will go away, if the show is successful then the rules worked for the organizer.
3. If you don't like the rules, organize your own show and you can make the rules.
I still like the idea of filling their parking lot with as many smarts as possible in a show of support for the show but yet a subtle hint that maybe the smart was overlooked and should be included next year in another category. Road trip anyone?

P.S. My High School French is a bit rusty. Any corrections or clever slogan ideas (in French) would greatly be appreciated.
Also I forgot to mention that the toyotas and hondas that are built here are only asembled here and the main sorces of the parts engines drivtrains and other parts are imported in so their is alot of money that is again not being spent here. at the end of the day GM and ford and Chrysler pay more in taxes than Toyota and honda since their only factories and most of them are tax free right now toyota and honda are paying little taxes compared to the american car factories and main headquarters.
remember every time our dollar leaves the country its devalued a little more till you are eating a 9 doller mcdonalds hamberburger like icelanders are right now.....well at least they were till mcdonalds closed the stores since they can no longer sell their since their money has devalued to the point of near nothingness.
keep buying chinese from wallmart beacause they employ americans and see where that gets you!!! everyones drinking the koolaid!!! lol
we have given most of the world out their their wealth especialy china and now that we are falling apart the rest of the world is feeling the pain.
this can go on for ever thou so ill stop but take the time to really look into what drives this country for the last 100 years and look at the cancer that is slowley destroying it you may be suprised with what you find and its not what you may think! that is unless you really know!
forgot to tell you all that back when the Ford probe was out, yea its been a while do you know how much it sold for in Japan!
over $40,000 dollers,
yea their was light terrifes on the car but it was slapped with a $10,000 doller inspection fee so that way the terrif price was low. I love how we feel we need to play fair when the rest of the world doesnt need to.
but thats why we are great we have the freedom to buy what we want when we want and thats that! all i can say I hope we lead the race in the new industrial revolution in new tech or the country will die!
heck we are outsorcing the flipping person to take our orders and BURGER KING thats how $%&#*# up we are getting, if we have to outsorce the order taker their is no hope for this country or at least big buisness. people need jobs to buy stuff, hire americans not indians oh well oh well sorry for the rant!

ANNA, Ohio, U.S.A., May 17, 2007–Associates at the largest Honda auto engine plant in the world celebrated the 15 millionth engine produced since Honda of America Mfg., Inc. opened the Anna Engine Plant in 1985.
My point was that is is still not an American car; it's still Japanese, with profits going overseas, my rebuttal to the previous statement that Honda is an American car because it is assembled here following the logic that a smart is a French car since it is assembled in France.
