For smart bike geeks

My friend Nathan has a ginormous Dutch cargo bicycle made by Bakfiets, and he thought it would make an interesting comparison, so we did a photo shoot last weekend...

I have never seen a bike designed like that before. Look at all of the cargo room!

Here at ISU, there is a Newspaper delivery program which goes to all of the dorms and the dining centers, that guy has a traditional bike with a 15ft trailor with bins strapped to it. In the winter I feel sorry for him because he has to climb icy hills with hundreds of pounds behind him on a bike.

Well, you'd probably feel sorry for him on a Bakfiets cycle, too, because the bike itself weighs 100 lbs.! It's great for the Dutch flatlands but even with its gearing system it's not something you want to do a long hill climb with.

As soon as i saw the Bakfiets I knew you had to be in PDX--so I look to the left to view your location and sho' nuff, Portland
