For which 81 year old donny? I know of several 80+ers who are as spry as folks in their 50's. DL's should be earned by everyone on a bi-annual basis by satisfactory completion of Written and Driving tests. I was hit twice, the first a teen with a new license, the second a 30ish mother with a suspended license. Age knows no boundary for ineptitude!!

No disrespect intended to any family who may eventually run across this thread before it eventually gets locked.

An 81 year old body doesn't react the same to say...a 40 year old body. Things break easier. The same auto accident in ANY car most likely would of netted the same results. Of course that is speculation and is something that just can't really be confirmed.

VERY VERY SAD

Shame on those bashers (on the roof's strength and accident article), a little fender bender where nobody is hurt may produce a chuckle or two but this is way out of line with the comments I've read in the accident articles

NO! I'm always seeking information on how well smarts survive serious crashes. I don't care about the person's name..or location. I DO care that he died or survived and and want to see how the car made out so I can draw my own conclusions about how well..it handled the situation. From the pics, in this case..I still think it did well. It takes a lot less to harm an 81 year old man.than it would a 25 year old. It's all pertinent!!

For those whose sensibilities are harmed by threads such as these..I suggest you not read them! BUT don't even think of denying others of us the information we seek and, for which, when you get down to it, is the very reason some of us subscribe to this forum!!!!!!

"intersection of Beulah Church Road and Antioch Church Road"

Both roads are called "Church Road". What church road is a 45 mph zone?

Where did you get the 2 out of 10,000 stats?

I agree totally - do not close this thread just because the subject is distasteful. I agree, no one wants to dwell on death and the carnage of a fatal accident, or any accident for that matter; but we as owners and enthusiasts crave information on the safety of the vehicle and how it performs in real world crashes.

Information is power.

Don't suppress news and information. We should have the opportunity to discuss it openly, as adults.

Well okay then, I didn't see it in that aspect.

Continue on! Recieve information!

I completely agree with this post. If you are older in some cases you are just as dangerous as a new driver. However, there are plenty of elderly who are as stated above quick as a button.

Close to what? The reflexes of a martial artist? The reflexes of a fighter pilot?

Let's just agree that there are people driving cars who physically or mentally cannot react with the quickness required to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Their age has absolutely no bearing on their ability behind the wheel.
