I actually prefer when you leave the gas station with 7/8 bars, drive 50 miles, then start the car again afterwards and find you have a full 8 bars.

I think that only happens once the dealer has "fixed" the gauge with a reflash, though.

I'm afraid not. I've had mine since October 2008, and it never exhibited that behavior til yesterday. I filled it, and it showed 7/8 til today. Took about 15 miles and overnight before it showed full. We'll see what happens at next fill-up.....

I have had my little car since March 2008 and have not experienced that problem. If and when I do, I will post it.

This is my look on it. There's 8 bars I think they represent 1 gallon of gas each but the tank holds 8.8 so the first bar in my car drops at about 85 miles and then they start dpopping every 35 or 40 miles and when the last one is gone it starts flashing 1.0-.09-.08 and so on. I have personaly had mine flash .00 many times before I stop for gas, so I'm thinking I had less than a tenth of a gallon of gas in the tank. I think the gas gauge is dead on. Thats my .02 cents

Just filled mine up for the second time. Slow auto fill to click off and then I pulled the filler out of the neck, waited a few seconds and then reinserted it and tried using slow fill again. Almost immediate click-off. So I just squeezed in enough to round off the price. Get in and 7/8 on the gauge. Drive less than 20 miles and shut off. A short while later hop in and now gauge shows 8/8...
This has happened on both fillups. A "normal" quirk for the car?

New Smart Cabriolet -Gas Gage problem

Hello,

I am a new member and had my Cab for a little over three weeks. I am on my third tank of gas and noticed that after I filled up this time....same station and same pump (8.25 g) the first bar is not filled in. I have read that some other folks have noticed some strange behavior. Is this something I can expect? I love the car....!

Thanks,
John
