Smart Car Rear-Ended

Today 4/15/2008 I was stopped for traffic when a 1988 Ford Van decide he would just change lanes and pass me on the left... unfortunantly he did not quite make it and rear-end me at about 50 mph; without ever appling his brakes. Knocked me about 10 feet; but it appears that the frame is still pretty much in tack. He did not speak english, or have any insurance

Wow... you have a red one, too.. How could he not see you to avoid you? I can't stand drivers who think they're the only one on the road and everyone else is in the way... they'd never act that way in a line at a store... just in their cars...

Sounds like you're ok, though! I'm glad for that... and hopefully your little red guy can be repaired to good as new!

MinnySmart:

Yeah, grocery stores are very calm and relaxing with all the little unsupervised children running up and down the isles. People are just so respectful of others and their property.

Even though a Smart...still just a car. Good thing your OK. Non-english uninsured drivers are the norm in Charlotte....rear ended twice while at stop lights by same. Does not look too bad all things considered. My 99 Concorde rear bumper ended up with me in my back seat in my last TA....glad I moved!

I'm glad you are OK. I don't want to sound stupid, but I would like to see how the Smart would perform in a 'BIG' rear end collision. I'm just curious to see how it holds up.

I saw the famous test on Youtube where it runs into a wall. But that wasn't a 'real' world scenario.

There's another thread on here regarding a side-swipe but that didn't seem like a high speed one or the door panels would have shattered.

You could try stopping in the left lane of the freeway and gets some good test results.

So sorry to hear! I'm glad you are ok and it looks like a replaced panel should have your smart back on the road.
