Smart Car rentals?

Hi -

I just posted my introduction.

I'm looking for a Smart Car to use during one of my book tours in November through the Midwest. Is it possible to rent a Smart Car (I live in the Washington, DC area)?

I'm an author, freelance writer, and occasional TV correspondent.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Stay Cheap!

I dont know for sure, but I think the only ones for rent are in the SFB area in California. Then again, I live in Texas.

I live in Los Angeles and there are 2 places that I know of that rents smarts. One is: Black & White Rent-A-Car in Beverly Hills; and the other is Budget Rent-a-Car also in Beverly Hills.

If you could get a custom wrap that shows the book cover and a little about the book, it would help with the tour. The Fortwo would get a lot of attention and the wrap would bring some of it to your book.

Sorry, I'm a simple man. What is a "custom wrap" and a "Fortwo"?

Not that it will help this guy, but Midway also rents smarts in Los Angeles.

Just to clarify... you live in DC but will be traveling around the midwest in Nov.

So, do you need a car from DC to drive around the midwest and then return to DC or are you flying in somewhere in the Midwest and then renting one?

How long do you need the rental for? And, this is important, what is your budget (since you're a self proclaimed "Ultimate Cheapskate")?

A wrap is what one puts on the car to give it a very unique look. There are some examples in the Smart Car Wrap section of the gallery of this site. A Fortwo is what this site and forum is about. It is the name of the Smart 451.

I hope this helps.

My plan is to drive round trip from DC. The trip will take me as far west as Minneapolis. I'll need the car for most of November. My budget, as always, is ALAP (as little as possible).

And, BTW, I'm not the "self-proclaimed" Ultimate Cheapskate ... the title was actually bestowed on a me a couple of years ago by none other than Matt Lauer on the Today Show! (What do you think I am, some type of Trophy Tightwad???)

^^^LOL^^^

ok, got it.

I poked around on the interweb and have come to the conclusion that it will likely cost you between $1000 to $2000 to rent from one of the few companies that do. The closest I found to you was NYC. Maybe they'll make a better price since it would be for a month...
