I hadn't started my car for about a month, and, when I turned the key in the ignition - CLICK!!! The car would not start. the battery is fully charged, the lights work, but the car won't start. HELP, please!!!
A battery can be just strong enough to honk your horn, and use your lights, while not be quite strong enough to turn the starter.
Only way to tell is use a meter. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in.
Here in the U.S., we can phone the Smart Roadside Assistance - do you folks up north have anything similar?
Just tighten battery connections about 1/2 to 1 turn. It may or may not help.
Many times batteries register good voltage, radio works, etc. but the heavy Amperage draw from the starter just won't make it possible for the engine to turn over when the connections are not tight enough.
Mine sat for 5 weeks and ended up with a dead battery. The door locks, radio etc worked but the battery was not strong enough to start the car. With the electronic start on the Smart it may take a bit more to start than some cars. Pulled the foot well cover, took off the battery terminals, charged the battery for 30 minutes and put it all back together. I did get the 3 bars of death display on the dash but moved the shifter from Park to drive twice and tried again and it started right up.
