smart carpet floormats

Has anyone here used the snap on screw pieces for their floormats? I have the floor mats but didn't want to do anything to the carpet so I neglected to put these on.

Am I alone on this one or have others neglected these pieces too?

I don't know how the screws work in the smart but in my other car I have mat hold down units that are screwed to the floor pan through the carpet. I wouldn't go any other way as the mats never move when they are fastened down. Don't have to worry about some clod getting in and moving the mat with their size 13 and getting dirt or mud all over the carpet

I installed the plastic snap-top screws that came with the driver side mats. They seem to be holding the mats well. But I haven't tried removing the mats yet for cleaning. I'm hoping that they remove easily and not rip up the screws. If the weather holds, I'll probably be doing a cleanup this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have not seen them yet to know if I am going to use them.

The Saturn L series uses a similar sounding screw in mount that just sort of screws into the carpet surface itself. They discontinued it in 2001, because they were junk and tore out of the carpet easily, creating a nice divot or complete hole where they were screwed in. I saw a ton of those come through work when I was at Saturn.

I did not use the screws, like you. I have the all weather down (until the carpet ones come in) and they have vecro strips on the back so it is unecessary to install the screws. It looked a bit rinky dink to me and I can imagine, after removing/installing the screws several times, that it might destroy the carpet.

I put in the screws. They are really needed on the small flap of carpet that runs up the far left side. It keeps it from flapping down. The carpet is easy to snap and unsnap from the screws, and they twist out just fine with no damage to the underlayment.

I have the rubber ones and don't use the screws. Its been two months now. No issues whatsoever (other than the high price).

I have the rubber mats and didn't use the screws because of the velcro, so far so good.
