Smart Cars on the Dragon (US 129)

Smarties,
I would like to know the level of interest that may exist for a Smart Cars on the Dragon Rally at Deal's Gap NC. for this coming fall or next spring.

I am talking about a three day (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) meet probably centered at Fontana Resort and including drives on the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway and the Foothills Parkway.

I would envision this to be very similar to Mini's on the Dragon with Dinners, Planned Drives, Vendor involvement and possibly some dealer sponsorship.

Besides owners that would be interested I want to know if any vendors would be interested in attending and possibly spondoring various activities and if there are any smart dealers that would be willing to get involved

Such a meet requires a great deal of planning and good execution but I am willing to attempt to put it together if there is enough interest and if others will help out with planning and support.

Well, I might be interested although I tried to mapquest Deal's Gap and couldn't get anything... any town close by? Is that north or south North Carolina? or east or west North Carolina? Or Central? LOL... anyway, further info would be helpful. Thanks Russ

Deals Gap is on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina on Route 129. It's the first pass south of 441 which runs between Gatlinburg and Cherokee. Closest town would probably be Robbinsville, NC.

Count me in! I may even forgo the local club event for this (much more fun with more smarts!).

For those interested, Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway, Graham Co, NC will get you the "official" site. And if you go to Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway, Graham Co, NC, you will quickly realize what kind of a head's-up we need to pull this off.

I'm jealouse, Here I live in the Entertainment Capitol of the World and can't get nothing like that goin on. HeLL at our last meet and greet we only had 5 Smart Cars show up, How pathetic are we?

Honestly though... don't worry about the numbers... It takes a while to establish local clubs... If this gets done it will be a national level event. Minis on the Dragon draws hundeds of cars from all over the country. Awwww crap... now I'm drooling over the thought again.

As stated the nearest town of any size is Robbinsville, NC. The location is far West NC right at the Tennessee border. These are some of the best Motorcycle and sportscar roads in America and the area is very scenic but there is not a lot of infrustructure nearby so it takes a lot of planning.

Really just one hotel in Robbinsville, More available about an hour away. A large resort with cabins and hotel called Fontana Village is nearby and would probably be the headquarters. You can google Fontana Village Lodge for information about it.

There is also a great deal of camping available in the area for those interested.
