I only see that working with EV models. How the heck would the gas thing work. Think about this. You get into a car with NO GAS. Then you fill some gas in, which is more then what you need for your driving. Unless they have some guy that goes around filling up the cars. Sounds like a good plan, but only if they have an extension cord that is used to recharge an EV car.

"Additionally, a service team will clean and service the vehicles on a regular basis"

These kind of programs are all over the place. They don't have Smarts yet because they need to keep costs down and it would not be cost effective to purchase orphans. In a few years I'm sure they will add them to the fleet, Afterall, they could have two in a parking spot.

Nifty Idea in congested areas. . .

Did anyone notice the 12-spoke wheels on one of the other photos?

I'll bet they're fun to clean the brake dust off~!

The Zipcar system has a pre-paid gas card in it that you use when the tank gets down to 1/4 full.

The cars have an electronic key lock system on them, so the company knows what time you enter and leave the vehicle, and how many miles you put on while you were driving.

Presumably, it wouldn't be too hard to figure out if someone was abusing the gas card system by correlating how much driving they were doing with the use of the card.

The only other thing they'd need to do would be to put a new card in every so often.

Just to nitpick, "trialed" is not a verb, no matter what the folks at GizMag.com seem to think.

Those wheels are run of the mill standard in other some markets. All of the US Road Show cars had them and yes, they're a royal PITA to clean.
