Angel, I can see your point.
Harley-Davidson is an American Icon and the Sturgis run, HOGS, and the "Coming Home" to Milwaukee underscores the pride people have in the Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
However, smart (I believe), symbolizes a change in cultural thinking that’s more on a global scale. The UK has smart car events and so does other places in Europe. The smart fortwo is unique and seems to deliver a statement about it’s owner.
A past example is the early Volkswagen Beetle. It was of course manufactured in Germany, yet during the 1960’s when it became the #1 import car in the US, it became a positive change in paradigm thinking. Instead of “Bigger, Stronger, More Powerful”, it’s motto was “think small” and it forever changed the automotive world.
I believe smart is like the early VW. With more people concerned about our planet, the smart fortwo is a statement about our ecology. It represents another paradigm shift. The drive to Bloomfield, Michigan is just a possible idea for a national gathering in the U.S. to bring people together and spread awareness.
So while I agree Harley-Davidson represents the United States, my thinking is smart (and it's owners), represents global thinking and the ecology for the planet.
