smart Cops in Birmingham AL

Birmingham police add smart cars to fleet | Breaking News from The Birmingham News - al.com

This is so cool, I hope more police departments see the value of a little smart cop car, especially for patrolling parking lots and other congested places downtown. And the best part is the criminals who think "oh that's just a golf cart, I can out run it."

Oh and some of the comments are funny, and some are actually intelligent.

I didn't read all of the comments, but didn't see too many 'intelligent', much less well informed, comments. Only a few out of the many.

EDIT: Went back and read the rest of the comments. Not too much intelligence represented.

At least the article they're responding to is nice. But, $32K for the Cushman? I had no idea!

The Smart cars cost $14,000 each, compared to $32,000 for the three-wheelers
Now that's a savings

And they will be supprised when they find they can actualy leave the parking lot chasing after someone

Looks like smart should start advertising, still lots of uninformed people about the basics about a smart.

Current smart cars can keep up with 55 mile per hour interstate traffic and the next generations are expected to reach top speeds of 90 miles per hour.

Well I guess I'm just use to the bottom of the barrel comments. With this being Alabama, the fact that most of the comments used proper English and grammar, and not text speak, surprised me. Maybe not well informed comments, but at least not the screaming, 2nd grade disses that you normal see.

Even the folks in alabama can see that buying a smart will save a lot of money. 1/2 price is 1/2 price

New smart police car

In the picture the car shown has a black tridion cell ,yet the grill is silver.I thought all black tridion cells came with matching grill surrounds.

They normally do. I bet they swapped the body off of another car to get those white panels and #1 couldn't figure out how to replace the grill surround or #2 just got lazy and didn't swap it out. (Crown still isn't on my good guy list - especially after looking at how bad my roof is crazed today).

As far as the comments go. They aren't too bad considering this is Alabama we're talking about (THAT'S A JOKE!! ) Seriously, there are quite a few voices of reason who understand that it is serving a purpose - replacing a Cushman and NOT a patrol car while still getting 2 for the price of 1. What's not smart about that, of course the commenters should be schooled on what smart really stands for. Only a small percentage of people really know.

Loved the idiotic comments~!

Especially this one:
"Current smart cars can keep up with 55 mile per hour interstate traffic and the next generations are expected to reach top speeds of 90 miles per hour."

With such a short wheelbase and narrow track width, it will have trouble remembering which way is front much over 40. Hopefully the polar moment will be low enough that it will just spin like a little top rather than dig in and roll when it starts swapping ends at speed.
I'm sure they are fine for use in crowded surface street situations, but simple physics will be their undoing if they try to go very fast at all. (This guy must be a physics major at UAB)

It goes to prove that a large portion of the earth is populated by total idiots! (Present company excepted, of course~! All but JetFuel.)
