i was told 12-14 months about a month and a half ago and some people on here are saying they were told 18-24 months WTF?? I am getting annoyed with not knowing the damn truth, anyone know whats up for real???
When I reserved my car in mid Jul the dealer said approximately 12 to 18 months. I'm finding now that my DDE is more like 12 months, but I think the wait time is based more on where you live than anything. Some areas are just getting the cars faster than other areas. When it comes to a smart, patience is a virtue.

Angry much? The dealers know the same as you do, which is nothing. They don't know anything until the 30 days before it shows up, at which point the contact you. If this is unacceptable, get an orphan.

it depends on where you live and all sorts of other factors. when i reserved in March of this year, i was told 18 months by our local smart center, SCI.
but in less than 6 months, i've been asked to 'configure' and my DDE keeps moving UP and is currently at "June-Aug 2009" which would mean only 15-16 month wait. my gut feeling is that i may get it sooner than that.
just go with what your dealer says......but understand it IS an 'estimate', based on the time frame that people from THEIR smart center have had to wait.
I was told 12 mo when I reserved. When I go back to the dealer, they tell me 12-14, but new ppl 18 mo. because there are more ppl in line now than in Feb. From what I have seen, they know LESS than we do most of the time. Its hard, but Im sure the wait is worth it. Right?
ANY estimation involving over 12 months is going to change during that time. It would be impossible to predict something that far out accurately.
My DDE has slide back, forward, back, forward... and is at its original 3 month spread. again of 16 months. I'm sure it will keep sliding around too.

True, anything could happen in that length of time...rampant cancellations, less new reservations, all could have an effect. My DDE has changed, in the last year, to nearly 5 months better than it was when I got started, now showing I am in the 90 day window. I think 12-14 months is accurate myself, but there are many variables. If the economy keeps going the way it has though...you'll have it sooner than you think, because it would appear people are getting even more reluctant to part with their money.
Patience is the name of the game. When I reserved a year ago (almost to the day), I was told I had a 12 month wait. Once the DDE came online, I watched it go from early June (june through September), to November - January 09, back to July/October, etc. Even after I received my car in early August (10 month wait), the DDE still couldn't really decide when I would get it.
You want accuracy, go to Vegas and bet on early-season college football. Otherwise, reas the posts, ask thoughtful questions, watch some football, basketball, baseball, '10 O;ympics, and before you know it, you'll be one of the first owners of a USA smart EV!
