I'm currently in Bangkok and read the Sunday comics. Shoe features the smart, though it appears to be a 450. On a side note, I haven't seen any smart cars in Bangkok. I think it would be perfect here because of the crowded streets.
That comic portrays the average persons misconceptions of the Smart. Most people are surprised it only gets 40 mpg and that it costs $15k. If I replied "It gets 60 mpg and cost $8k" I think most folks would not be surprised. There must have been some clever marketing done at some point.
14 month owner, I find people are not surprised by the price ... they often come back with something like, "oh, that's not bad". And this, after I tell them the price of a fully loaded cabrio.
However, they are almost universally disappointed when informed of the actual EPA estimated mpg figures.
