I think you need to ask a moderator to Delete the Poll and start over please (or maybe the moderator can edit your poll question)

Topic askes "Is smart female or male?" I assume this is about the gender of smart (car?) in my case all vehicles are refered to as "Her" thus female

But poll question is "Are you male or female?" I am gender, male and I thnk we already have a site poll on this maybe not too many polls last fall to remember

Or maybe you are asking who is smarter female or male.??..in that case female...just ask my daughters or wife... grin

She is a car

smart is a car, and like for ships and airships, like for most vehicular contraptions, I was taught to say "she". So, if the poll is about smart's gender, I'd say female. But if the poll is about smart's owners/drivers genders, that is a different question and should be rephrased accordingly. Until then, I'll abstain from voting...

Citing some international usage that I am not aware of, “Lloyd’s List” has recently changed its references to ships from “she” to “it.” I guess there are many minor cultural entities and whiners out there that must be acquiesced to. At any rate I have spent far too many years and sea miles in ships that were “shes” (even some with male names) to follow Lloyd’s.

But a motor vehicle is different; there is nothing “he” or “she” about it; “it” is just a damn car.

People please don't over think the question. I just don't want to show up for work and show the guys my new car and have them ask me why I bought a "girls car".

I know, It's a "guy thing" but thats OK, I'm a guy.

Refining my statement, and in support to Old smart, I'd settle with "it".

I have always wondered if I got a boy car or a girl car... but haven't turned IT over yet to find out.

Actually, I knew what you were driving at. The only car that I can recall as being considered a “girly car” was the first, tail-finned, Sunbeam Alpine. That idea stuck until the Sunbeam Tigers came along, and the Alpine Mk IIs and later also got the same rear fender treatment as the Tigers. At the time of the “Mk Is,” the Alpines were compared to the much rortier Triumph TR-3s, big Healys and XKs.
