I hope the Smart car goes back to its roots like the Mercedes A-class car. Both were originally designed to be an electric car from the start.

http://www.evnut.com/docs/carbdetour_eaa.pdf

I've wanted an electric vehicle for a very long time.

Something tells me the car is going to show up in California only. The Zero Emissions Mandate started in California, yet the states that were considering adopting the ZEV mandate started out as NY & MA, then VT, CT, NJ, RI & ME. Thus it became a national threat to big oil, car manufacturers & other corporate interests. Otherwise I'd be living in a state that would be getting these allegedly "experimental" electric vehicles. The battery technology patent that Chevron Oil bought will expire in December 31, 2013 so they will eventually have to stop sending their lawyers around stopping all sorts of cars from being produced. I'm looking forward to getting away from ICE & HEV cars and hoping we'll see EV & PHEV cars.

I'm glad to see GM filing bankruptcy yesterday (4th largest filing in U.S. history), but something tells me they are just going to wring out concessions to former and current employees then do what k-mart did. When K-Mart filed, six months later they bought Sears.

Why does California get all of the cool stuff? Why can't they simply roll that neat stuff out to the rest of the country? Why must I live in some state that you have to make $150,000/yr. to afford to live just to be privy to a Tesla or any other new technology? This is a bunch of B.S.

I already have the solar panels on my roof 5.25 KWhr price was $45,000
rebate of $27,000 from the state IRS gave me $2,000 now each 1,000 KWhr get me $350 this does not count my savings of over $1,000 in electric bills a year.
We were considering this a year or two ago when our state started providing such incentives, but I think it's the not knowing anybody who has done it and wondering whether it's really worth it is the reason we didn't pursue it (that and being busy with other stuff). I probably should look back into solar panels. I was reading that whatever energy you don't consume goes back into the grid and the energy company actually pays you for generating electricity. I'm still too uneducated about it all to really know whether it's worth the investment.

I ran across this yahoo group not too long ago. It's kinda funny to see the huge jump in member posts during the months that of the release of the Who Killed the Electric Car? documentary. I haven't joined but the description of the group has me intrigued.
