Smart fortwo fit in pickup bed?

I'm not, yet, an owner, but I became fascinated with the Smart during my trips to Europe. I've wanted one ever since. At this point I'm waiting to get a few bills paid off before taking the leap. (I've already visited the local dealer and did a test drive).

Anyway, the reason for the post as the title implies, I'm wondering if anyone has or seen a Smart car strapped down in the back of a pickup truck bed.

I haven't taken a tape measure to one, but it looks like they'd fit between the rails, above the wheel wells with some blocking.

with a long bed it would almost work.. problem is with the wheel wells inside of the pickup. you would have to ut ramps and such in and by that time you may as well just get a flatbed trailer. Been there.. tried that. I have a trailer =)

Also check Manufatures weight load for the Truck not tow load to make sure it can support the weight of a smart.

I guess it would depend on the pickup truck. I remember seeing a photo of a pickup truck by Internation called the CUV; commercial utility vehicle. It was the size of the tractor used to pull trailers. It had four doors and pickup bed in back. I saw it once on of the home network shows on tv.

It would depend on how . . .

It would depend on how fast the smart was going before hitting the pickup bed . . .

Seriously, a 3/4 ton truck would handle the weight load; I used to regularly load mine with 2200 pounds or so. It's just the width of the bed that would be bothersome. Most can handle a 4 foot wide plywood between the fender wells, but I think the smart would be too wide. . . and then there is the whole other problem of getting it in and out of there, too.
Let us know if you do - and take some photos~!

Just spring the $20 or so and rent a U-Haul "transporter", all 4 wheels OFF the ground

This is a really big pickup which I was parked next to, but the bed still isn't long enough to handle the smart!

It looks like the International CUV that I had mentioned before (or something similar to it). One can see the contrast between the vehicles.

Yes a smart will fit in a full size pick up bed. As mentioned the wheel wells create an issue. If you build blocks in front of and behind the wheel wells it can be driven in. I used some blocks and set it on top with a two post auto hoist. There is a Canadian couple who loads theirs in their pick up and than tows their travel trailer to Arizona for the winter.

Cheers, Dan
