Smart ForTwo lost 3.9%

Our smart cars value is going down

...The tiny Smart ForTwo lost 3.9% of its value just from July to August this summer. Gutierrez notes, however, that Smart's longer-term depreciation still is not bad, with most retaining 85% of value since deliveries began last year.....

I didn't buy to sell, and if I were selling, I didn't pay as much as I would have most other brand new cars for my pure, anyways. In any case, 3.9% dep isn't bad (as noted in the report) at all.

Hate to break it to everyone but cars are depreciating assets!! Anyone who buys a car expecting to make money is sadly mistaken. I never understood people taking a 5 year loan and trying to sell in 2 years expecting something magical to happen like positive equity!

If you take a loan expect to keep your car til the loan is paid, if you want a shorter loan then take a higher payment, or maybe actually put money down! More then just covering tax title and tags too!

Just hang on. In 30 or 40 years it will be a classic.

I laugh at people when they mention upside down loans and cars in the same breath... unless you buy a rare super-car and never use it for more than to go down the driveway to pick up your mail, ALL cars are worth less the moment you put the key in and turn it on to leave the stealership... "Smart ForTwo lost 3.9%" GET IN IT AND DRIVE IT FOR ENJOYMENT! purchase gold for investment....

I can't believe this is happening to me Again!
My 86 Cad Fleetwood Broughm did the same darn thing.
It is almost worth nothing today.

I mean really I just don't understand it..
when are we going to get a car that goes up in value every year.
Isn't that one of our Rights?

Well, I hope you let us know any other surprising news you dig up.

Cars are for transportation and if you're lucky, they're a source of fun too. The idea is to get a car, pay it off quickly and when you remove that debt you still have a working car! Then, the payoff is using that money for other stuff...mortgage, rent, food, aftermarket supplies including but not limited to cold-air intakes and performance springs and the odd decal.

But yeah, cars depreciate...almost any vehicle will aside from a rare few.

I was just noticing on one of my daily WWW pit-stops that there is $1.99 regular gasoline in Houston today.
Link is dynamic obviously, so the information shown won't necessarily reflect what I'm seeing right this minute!

Well, this is a bit like the stock market, the only prices that matter are on the day you buy and on the day you sell. So if you aren't selling you smart fortwo today, does this really matter?
