smart on Home Shopping Network

While channel surfing last night, I accidentally tuned in the Home Shopping Network. I normally would have changed channels again, but they were washing a red/black smart with a pressure washer.

Check out the video here. They demonstrate washing the smart about a third of the way through the video.

Does anyone use a pressure washer on their car? I personally would not. What say you?

Drive smart.

Kind of overkill for a car you can clean with a water bottle and a hand towel.

That's pretty funny!!!

I have a powerwasher as well but it's a gas one rated to 2500psi. I have washed my Smart with it as well as our other SUV. It's actually pretty fast. It uses a lot less water than a regular hose. Just make sure you set it on the lowest setting so it doesn't ruin the car's paint.

It's great for cleaning the wheels and getting the brake dust off. I would highly recommend it.

Manual says not to......

Piece of useful info since the smart is made much like my Suzuki sport rocket

I used a DIY car wash pressure hose from the car wash down the road to wash down the 1000S a few summers ago..... from about 4 feet I pointed an pulled the trigger.....

To my horror the water bounced of the front fairing and PEELED off about a half dollar sized chunk of my paint.....

Anyone who rides knows riders keep their bikes mint.... I was mortified.....

Cheers

From the video, it didn't look as if this washer delivered any more (if as much) pressure than the self serve car wash wand down the road. I'm more afraid of those nasty, sandy, gritty brushes they've got there. I always wash the brush with the pressure wand before using it on my car. But, when I've got a really new car, undamaged as yet by acid rain and parking lot dings, I have it cleaned professionally.

From the manual -

Quote:
Never use a round nozzle to powerwash tires. The intense jet of water can result in damage to the tires. Always replace a damaged tire.

Do not aim directly at electrical parts, elecrical connectors, seals, or other rubber parts. The distance should be at least 4 in (10 cm) and the water temperature must not exceed 140F (60C). Follow the instructions provided by the power washer manufacturer on maintaining a distance between the vehicle and the nozzle of the power washer.

Always keep the jet of water moving across the surface.

Think before you pull the trigger...

Cmon people. Use some sense here. When you use a pressure washer, you don't set it on the highest of setting and blast away. You do that and you can kiss your paint goodbye. You can cause damage to your rims and tires. You could even damage the glass. DO NOT USE THE HIGHEST SETTING!!!

GO with the lowest setting. You can put your hands in front of it without problems. Even with the lowest setting, you can still save a lot of water over the garden hose.
