Would salt water destroy the seal? Seems like it would take a while even if so. A short dip in saline, followed by a fresh rinse wouldn't do the trick, in light of post #1?

So, what was your clue that the key had been submerged? Was there water inside? This contradicts the OP.

And, I doubt you called a customer stupid to his/her face.

A word of warning on the seal . . .once you opened the fob, the seal may not be as good when you closed it back up.

Possible cures for dampness in electronics I've seen include placing the item in a bowl of uncooked rice and sealing it air tight for a couple of days. Another was to use coarse salt - place the item on top of the pile and seal the container. Both have a tendency to draw out moisture and that could be enough to get things working again.

So does this give you a clean start??

Wouldn't Putting it in coarse salt be the same as a salt water bath??

I have heard uncooked instant rice will work too.

This just affirms people's beliefs that the smart is just a front load washer.

If you don't drain out what water you can, yes, you can turn the salt into a salt bath, and that won't help. Ideally if you have access to the silica gel dessicants, you can do a proper job, but these are home remedies.

Have you noticed restaurants with rice in their salt shakers? The salt will absorb moisture and clump, so they use the raw rice to keep the salt free flowing. So, I guess that makes raw rice the dessicant's dessicant.
