Smart in the local paper today?.......

We have a "Spout Off" section in our local paper (Northwest Florida Daily News) where people ramble off about a whole lot of nothing and I read this:

"Today in Destin I saw a rather large man driving one of those suitcase cars. He should of saved money and just wrapped himself in heavy-duty aluminum foil and put on roller skates!"

I have a feeling they were talking about a Smart. It cracks me up someone would go the trouble and write the paper about it. I know there are some haters out there, but to write in to the newspaper? Come on now.

Probably written by an disgruntled aluminum foil/roller skate salesman

Probably written by an SUV driver who's pissed off that they get 6 miles to the gallon.

Anyone ever see that episode of the Simpsons where we get to see everyone elses lives and in this particular clip, Nelson (the main bully) laughs at a very tall man driving a VW beetle too small for him? The next shot is Nelson being forced to walk in front of the VW while the man shouts out to the crowd what he did. The crowd throws food at him and laughs at him.

Kinda reminds me of that.

As opposed to writing about it on the internet?

Your pal,

Hey - it's just FL.

Here we have a "Sound Off" in the local rag. Folks can phone in anonomously and leave a rant about anything. They talk about the TV commercials being too loud (mute button, dummy!) the neighbors grass being too high/watered too often/not enough/too weedy, the traffic flow, the length of the stoplights, and on and on ad nauseum. It's just a bunch of old folks with nothing else to do but B***h! They should get another hobby. . . or maybe a life.

My sister mentioned that "sound off" you have down there when I mentioned our "spout off". She said it was hilarious at what the complainers whined about. Oddly enough, sometimes people write in about small good deeds done. Good to hear about that every so often, good Samaritan helps old lady change a tire, refuses money - stuff like that . At least we still have some things like that in Florida and it hasn't turned into a California yet.

I guess I don't know what exactly you are trying to say about us here in SoCal... my local volunteer community association just planted and continues to tend some 80+ trees on behalf of our city, to help beautify our neighborhood at our own expense. There are similar organizations all over my city, LA county and the state of California doing the same kind of works.
I will admit that the local transit authority for Los Angeles County (MTA) has paid contracts for the MTA Freeway patrol, which consists of towing/service trucks that provide free gas, tire changing, and/or towing off of the freeways for broken down motorists.
Perhaps y'all should try the California way before dissing it...

East/West

I knew it was just a matter of time before an East Coast/West Coast rivalry would arise

I hope to be bi-coastal some day
