Smart Paint Sealent?

Greetings, Early this next week, I will be picking up our new Passion Smart car. I have a question I really need to get an answer to, Please.
We've ordered the Metalic Blue color. The dealership is saying that we really need to have a sealent applied to the car for $495. which to me sounds like an expensive wax job. Supposedly the metalic blue has a problem in that if a bird drops his 'load' (so to speak), that if it is not washed off within an hour, it will eat thru the paint and coating and causing a permenent spot. Is this true? I would think that with a new car, the paint and it's seal coatings would withstand this type of situation. I would think that Mercedes would produce an excellent paint job and coatings to prevent this. Please help us. Not sure what to do. Like I said, it sounds like an expensive wax job, which they say only takes 30 minutes to apply. Are they telling the truth? Waiting to hear from you before we have to decide this. Thanks... I'm listening. Bob.

Bob, I got stuck with a $495 protectorant job on my orphan. It covers both the exterior paint and interior fabric. I didn't really have a choice as to whether I wanted it or not - it was an orphan, take it or leave it.

In the five months since, I've washed the car every three or four weeks and the beading still occurs. Personally, I wouldn't have paid to have it put on - I figure with some Rejex or many other fine products available, the job can be done much cheaper with just as good of results.
And the interior fabric stuff probably isn't much more than a can or two of Scotchgard.
It all depends on how much you value your time and labor, I suppose.

I'd say save the $$$ for more bling~!

Miracle Paint Protection

Snake Oil!!!

About 30 years ago there was a product from the Polyglycoat Corporation. It was sold only to dealers who then asked about $500 for the application.
The Attorney General in NY filed suit and closed them down after it was established that in order to keep the warranty the vehicle would have to be buffed regularly with a polishing compound by the owner.
It was determined that this was indisdinguishable from a wax job.

Even if the stuff from the dealer today is better, then I still would not trust it. I would rather emphasize more washing and applying wax or one of the newer protectants with teflon.
The interior could get some scotchguard protection and that's about all for that.
I'd spend the money on some quality seat covers instead and still have enough left over for a nice dinner, etc.
Just my opinion...

As SubSlr88 stated, it is a matter of how much your time is worth. For about a forth of what your dealer is asking, you can get a full spectrum of products from a top notch company and do it yourself. The one I chose was Zaino.
Then add some Scotchguard for the interior. The Zaino (or whatever) is more than a single application too, where the dealer applied sealant they're selling is a one shot deal. Even worse, if you finance that $495 with the car. They tried to sell it to me too, I passed.

Agree with the posts above; the metallic blue is no more subject to bird droppings than other painted colors. Any painted surface can be marked by bird poop if not removed quickly. Wax, etc. helps, but can't overcome bird power.
