hi everyone! just found this rack & roll thing...it appears to be only fit for the european model smart. if anyone knows how this goes (if it can) on the U.S. model, please let me know...thanks!
I found it on smartcaruniverse.com.
They are one of the forum's supporting vendors so should be happy to provide more info. While the photos show a 450 model I'm sure (99% anyway) a 451 with the proper hitch would work fine with that trailer.
Have posted about mine a few times both here and on the insider board. Best little trailer I have ever had. Purchased from Rack Warehouse in VT this spring during a $150 off sale including free shipping. I don't think they carry it anymore but have seen a few other places in the US that carry it as well. If the cost is too high (these run about 2k US) look at the malone Downeaster. It's made in Maine is very similar in design to the Rack and Roll even allows for all the thule or yakama adapters. The cost is about half. Down side is made of galv steel instead of alum.
I am sorry, not a very technical person, so are you saying that this is compatible with the new 2008-2009 smart that are in the U.S. now. You have a smart right? If you look at the bumper...i dont see a place where the hitch can even go. it is flat across.

Okay, but is this one compatibel for 2008-2009 smarts or just teh european models. It does not clearly state that...i am so confused.
"This looks like the best deal going on a hitch: UHaul Hitch Installed" Oh okay...thanks for that. It doesnt look like there would be enough clearance, but if you're confident with the product - what can i lose? A couple hundred dollars to have it installed.
I sure hope it's compatible. As my smart is an 08 cab. There are a couple of treads on this board already discussing the different trailer hitch options. Right now there appears to be at least two commercial versions out there. One made by SCU in Canada (the one I have, cost around $500) and one sold though U-Haul for around $200. Do a search and you can read the pros and cons of both units.
awesome...thanks for your help. I was wondering about the hitch because i have a dew drop trailer and i have no idea if the smart will be able to pull that. i just went over to the thread about panels and some of them do not know what they talking about. maybe you can throw some knowledge down...haha...lol.
