Smart salute

I had some whacko in a parking lot yesterday, jump out of a pick up,come to attention and snap a slaute as I drove past.....you would have thought I had a couple of stars on the bumper.
I returned his salute of course, but it's probably been over 30 years since I've returned a salute from a POV.
Weird.

I don't know if this is the place for this, but someone mentioned that we should have a sign or salute when we meet other smarts on the road (and my oldtimers disease keeps me from remembering what thread it was on) but I think a good salute between smarts would be to use the American Sign Language sign for "SMART" you can see the sign for this at this website:

A flash of the lights !

When I was about 11 or 12 and collecting paper for the Boy Scouts, our drop off point was the basement of the liberty. There I found a stack of old auto mags from Europe. They were dated from the 30s and 40s.

I took these home and read them all, and looked at the long sweeping lines and square radiators of those old cars. True Art, but of course I didn't know it then.

Long kid years later, the old cars long forgotten I passed a car lot, and there sat a red 1952 MG TD. In my mind that MG looked just like those cars in those old Auto Car mags. I bought it for $850 and sold my Ford.

I went out for a first drive and had another MG flash his lights at me, then another. I soon figured out that there was nothing wrong with my car and the light flashers were all real Sports Cars of every make and year.

I was so thrilled to own such a recognized real sports car that I even went out and bought a checkered cap, just like the rich guys wore.

Never ever again in my life did I experience such a feeling with a car till now. At this place in time we Smarties are a unique group.

Lets flash our lights to our fellow Smart drivers in pure celebration of our fun.

A2Jack.

I had a freak in a 240SX see me from about 100yds and had a shrilling laugh as I looked over at him - he did scream COOL after words though. Still I question whether he was driving under the influence.

a2jack - I saw an MGBGT today that was VERY nice though he didn't give me even a glance. The car wasn't even on fire or anything like that (inside Lucas English humor ) Corvettes have that following though in the last several years it has lost the same camaraderie. I do get waves from most new Vettes though when I break out the '63.

Aerotaz - the sign language Smart sounded neat but it sure looks like it has a bit of middle finger use. Do you have to do that same facial expression too?

The facial is scary. But you need to be carefull how you use your fingers and how you put your hand to your head. Look at the sign for "dumb".

I know all this attention won't last, so let's enjoy it while we can.

I see where you're coming from - I'd hate to have be in the car and sign "dull" to a passenger while sitting at a light as it may look odd to onlookers.

I'm almost thinking a Smart Wave may be the way to go - just show lots of teeth and enthusiasm when doing it. A Smart salute works great too....

Personally, I would prefer that other drivers in close proximity keep their hands on the steering wheel...
