Smart vs. Mini

I'm considering a smart fortwo and a Mini Cooper S. What do you guys think?

Those cars are on different levels, to serve completely different applications. Not even a fair comparison.

The Mini S is supercharged? If you want a sleeper, the smart is not your car. If you want a back seat, the fortwo is not your car. If you want the Union Jack on the roof, the smart is not your car. If you want to get looked at every time you drive and if you want people to gather around and ask about your car, the milage, the cost, the manufacturer, the smiles per mile in the smart cannot be beaten. that said, please buy the mini S. That way one of us will get their smart sooner.

I have both. Both are fun cars. Smart more for straightforward driving around town, imho. Rates very high on the WOW scale. Smile every time I see it, because of how it looks and the mileage. MINI leaves me smiling when I drive it, because it is go-cart fun, but if you drive it that way around town, it's down to about 23 mpg.

Took the MINI to the Texas Hill Country to drive the twisties ** the smart wouldn't be as fun for sure. Took the smart for all my errands today. Would have been filling up the MINI.

Of course, there is the obvious ** backseat and one is spelled with all caps while the other is all lower case.

Oh yeah, my smart cost almost half of my nicely loaded MINI (plus I have spent a nice amount for performance mods on the MINI, which I will not likely do for the smart).

If your choice really is "and", then you have no dilemma... But if it's an alternative, then I suggest that you test drive both of them, on the same day. You're the one who is going to live with your choice!

My neighbor two doors down (same townhouse building) just got a mini about a month ago... I got my smart a week ago. He came over to check out my car the first time he saw it and was all smiles. I kept trying to bring up his car, but he didn't want to talk about it... just wanted to know more about the smart and sit in it... took a while before I could get back to cleaning my garage... but I always welcome any reason to get to know the neighbors... So, if you're looking for something that's an absolute blast to drive in the twisties, get the mini. If you're looking for the newest, smallest, most interesting car... get the smart. Plus, the smart is cheaper, and gets better fuel mileage...

Since I owned a 2002 problem filled-31 K miles crapped tranny Mini, I am so not in favor for the car. Left me with a terrible after taste in my mouth. I will never get another Mini. I love my smart and glad I got it
