The smart you can't buy in Europe . . .

Tne one we have here in the USA with no mhd.

Think about it. Ours is the best buy in the world. They've done everything they can to keep costs down. No mhd. No advertising campaign.

Not a bad deal at all.

I paid $15.5K for my Passion with just a few extras.

I configured the same for a European model and it came to 14.5K Euro, which is almost $20K USD.

On another note, I have seen computer software selling for either $49.99 or Euro49.99 (almost $70). Go figure.

For the time being we are fortunate. It's about time something positive happens to our economy, no?

That's a positive way to look at the situation Bill. Thanks for the optimism.

Its so true. If you think about it, its like we get a very nicely configured version AND they ship it across the Atlantic and across the entire US (in my case in San Francisco) for much less than what they would pay for the same car if one was to buy it in Hambach France.

I fell in love with the European ones years ago, but the looks of the American ones are far superior hands down. I couldn't be happier.

MHD?
Are you able to remove the impact of taxes in both the US and non-US order/configuration model? I used to look for bargains in the duty-free shops and wondered why I wasn't finding them. Seemed like those Nikon cameras and the nice watches and electronics were all MSRP (full manufacturer's price). Then I figured what the European buyer was looking at - no 20% VAT. For a car, add the annual road use tax and any others they may layer on there and they could probably sell the Smart (or other products) at a higher base price in the US and we'd still see a price out the door that is lower than what the average European pays (unless the dollar gets upside down)
