it will be our only car

The fortwo will be the first car we've owned since 2002. We live in Washington DC.

2001 PT Cruiser
2004 JCW MINI S

The PT was produced in the first few months after its introduction in 2000, is in perfect condition, and the fact that the PT will go out of production after next year, we figured maybe it'll be classic someday. It will spend alot of time in the garage.

The MINI is a hoot to drive, and figures to be the long hauler on interstate trips.

So the fortwo will be the around town car.

I can see the Smart as a sole vehicle in Europe where public transportation is available to just about anywhere. For the wide open spaces in the U.S. the Smart just doesn't have the comfort and performance to handle long distances. We'll keep the MINI as the luxo-tourer.

My new Smart to replace the '96 Taurus, my Winter banger car and all around p/u vehicle for bigger stuff at HD and the like. Our cruiser car for longer trips will be the wife's '03 Acura TL which is a beautiful car for long trips and soooo comfortable to ride or drive. It actually gets 30mpg on a road trip, too! The S-2000 is our Summer car and my Summer driver to work (3miles away) and soon it will be stored away in a barn to be taken out next Spring. The wife may wind up using the Smart more than I do as her work is 3X farther away than mine......( But that will save us the most in fuel expenses, too......)

Hmm, very interesting. Thanks to all who are weighing in on this topic. If I go through with this I think I will get a Flexcar membership for the occasional long hauls. Sure beats maintenance and wear and tear on a second vehicle

With Flexcar I can get a hybrid, a truck, or whatever as the need dictates--also, there will be infinite beauty in not always being the default DD for my mom and s.o. I can see it now: You know, I'd love to, but I can only take one passenger

The smart will be eventually my only car. I have an '81 Honda Civic that has survived many transitions with me. The final one will be when I pass it on to someone else. Also I have a class B, van conversion motorhome that does not get used as much, so it should go as well. For long trips, I will fly, rent, bicycle, or whatever...

The Smart will join my current daily driver, an `07 Pontiac Solstice. When I need to haul somthing, I have a `63 Studebaker pickup. Also have several other collector cars that are exercised on the weekends.

I currently have a 95 Montero SR (Payed off) and a 03 Evo8 (Still Financing). I plan to sell my Evo or trade it in and purchase the Smart as a replacement. The Evo8 is nice but insurance is high does not get good gas mileage. I willmiss the Evo but I plan to have a SMART for now and later purchase a different sports car down the road.,
