I've used the Smart as my primary cars since I got it on Jan. 19. 100+ miles per day on L.A.'s streets and freeways. (no bullet holes in it yet)

the smart is my primary vehicle. i live in midtown atlanta and commute 15 miles by interstate to work, i walk to everywhere i need to go around town.

i drove it to tampa on sunday (16 hour round trip), and i will tell you, after 700 or so miles, the heated seats certainly come in handy for the bashing the suspension gives your kidneys. the first 5-6 hours are fine, but after that it gets a bit rough. but riding in any car for 6+ hours is no picnic.

My 450 shares the garage with an elder: '81 Honda Civic. smartie does the running around and trips to LA (Ugh) and Santa Barbara. Honda does the Lowe's/ HD runs. Works out well. Just can't sell the Honda They keep each other company in the garage.

Our household of two has a 2008 Nissan Murano, a 2004 Nissan Maxima, and the new Smart. I now have to sell my Max because as a 40 year old, I don't want to get anymore speeding tickets. Being that most of our driving is around town, we will use the Smart as the main vehicle. I work from home so I never have to drive. My gf will use it to go to work, to the gym, to her swimming class, etc. We will use the Murano for carrying our two dogs around town during weekends or long trips.

Technically, my smartie is my only vehicle. My leased Acura TL is being driven by my daughter until 7/1 which I thankfully paid off early in 1/08. Currently, I have 3,200+ miles on my smart and it's only been 2 months. This is the most miles I have EVER put on any new car. Most of my miles are hwy miles (NJ Trnpke & Garden State Pkwy) while I travel along the coast line looking for great views and neat spots of interest. Unfortunately, my daily commute is only 10 mins from my house because I park at the park & ride.

One thing I do worry about is not having a spare tire. I'm definitely going to purchase a slim spare tire and store it behind my passenger seat once they become available. Other than that, I love my smart cabrio. It's loads of fun and it's also my first ragtop. Regina

Smart as Primary

My wife and I don't have "His" and "Her" cars. We have a 2005 MB SLK350 and a 2006 Lexus RX400H. The Lexus is leased and our single-pay lease is complete in November. I'm fighting to sell it or turn it in, depending on how the $33K residual compares to the value. My wife wants to keep it.

HOWEVER, while we've only had our yellow cabriolet for 5 days, we're fighting over it for all of our local driving here in the Bay Area, city streets and freeways. So you could say it is and will be our primary car.

I'd love to get a small diesel (VW jetta, the new VW Tiguan, new MB GLK small SUV, BMW 3 series sedan, or the BMW X3 if they bring it in). I've driven the MB E320 on ML Blue-Tech diesels, and while they drive nicely, they're too big for me. I'm comitted to something that gets at lease 35 mpg as our 4-seater.

If we turn in or sell the Lexus, we can get by with the Smart and the SLK, and rent a 4-seater when necessary, until the diesel 4-seater becomes available.

I don't go ANYWHERE without my smart, and wouldn't have it any other way. Last night I stuffed $260 of Costco groceries into it... the car never groaned with the mighty load (which included 12 rolls of paper towels). 60-miles-per-day commutes are a piece of cake.

My smart is my only vehicle - and it will have to be everything and more!

My smart will be my primary car when it arrives. As a matter of fact, last weekend I sold my "primary" vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Stratus. I will drive my other rarity, an '83 Plymouth Scamp pick-up, until my smart arrives this fall. I have a soft spot for unique vehicles. If you guys think smarts are still rare, smart has already imported more cars this year than Plymouth made Scamps the whole production run!

I hope that smart doesn't follow the lifecycle of your Scamp.

So far this looks to primarily a second car (but first choice in driving) for many. A few who use it as an only car. A so far only one super urban person who otherwise would not have a car.

And BeSmart is the winner for what has to look like a scale model of a typical American garage.
