smartcar pricing 2009

I had mine since March 2008 but I saw something disturbing on CNBC which got me thinking. If I heard correctly, the dollar has gotten so weak this past year that it has lost about 20% of its value relative to the euro. I know the dollar is weak but if the value has decreased that much, how does smart get by selling the car without price increases when all their production is in euro land. I'll admit I gave a half arse search of pricing before creating this thread but has anyone been following the pricing?

Maybe they locked in certain prices ahead of time so that the changing dollar wasn't as big an issue? One of the airlines did that for its fuel prices for 2008.

Whatever the price, I just read on Autoblog that MHD will be standard. Dang! I really wanted start-stop... which I think should be mandatory, standard equipment on every car produced.

I also read that they had 'locked in' their prices. I really don't understand it, except that it means the smart won't be more expensive...

When I was picking up my Smart, I heard another salesman talking to a customer and she had asked if the price that you reserve it now for is locked in and the salesman said the price could go up and that would be what is charged. The lady was upset that she could not get one now and he could not guarantee the now price. Hard telling how much it could go up within 18months!

Hey Mikie... Yes, they are the same. I was just attempting to avoid repetition of the same phrase in the posting. To be clearer.. I'd really like MHD/Start-stop on my existing car. Good news for all the later adopters, though.
