From the large number of initial sign-ups, and a high number of posts from people waiting for their smart, I would guess that smart USA decided to leverage their email list. Perhaps assuming they can get a large percentage of the 20K+ reservists to answer their invitation and quickly build the largest smart community.

Personally I like the membership here and on the Canadian Club as a good mix of people with a smart ownership history and early adopters.

You have been in this industry for awhile and you know all OEMs must make this kind of appearance on the Web. Only time will tell what it evolves into, the 1 thing I do know OEM sites do not like negative posts ( I joined, and if they knew I was a 450 owner and started to chat about it, I'm sure I'd get booted).
The way I see it is they are too late in starting this, they will not condone chats that can be had here, heck I bet if a post was made asking if the shifter problem has been finally fixed it would be gone faster than $50 at Jersey St. (private joke).

You welcomed the G&K 450 community here, you have 15K in members, at anytime there are more guests viewing than registered people, what up with that?

If you Google Smart Car, SCOA is #3, I wouldn't worry just yet, I know I have a home.
