The roof is a service part why not. I would be willing to bet that the benefit will be less than you think. The green house on this car is huge. Let us know how it works for you. Any good glass shop can do the work, good luck with the dealer on parts.

Yes I found a fellow member who painted it. Haven't heard if it does work.
Better sunshade maybe but I reckon that the best way to reflect heat is from the roof surface. I am contemplating a roof vinyl piece. Much like how they do car wraps but just a one-color plain vinyl for the roof.
The other source of sun coming in may well be the front windshield. The smart car doesn't have a green band across the top of the windshield. Maybe another plain vinyl banner?
There are some smart centers that have added a giant American flag to the roof in the wrap material that goes over windows. Great idea. Similar to that other flag you see on Minis.
just go to Walmart and for like $8 you get a couple of thin round heat shield for the front windshield that are made of like thin aluminum (I think is a mylar base with reflective coating). I'm able to fit both of them between the roof and the sunscreen. This way I keep the transparent roof when not too sunny or totally covered when hot.
I chose to order the Passion with the solid roof. Came with a nice cloth type headliner that may have a little insulating value. This set up seems to be a little cooler as far as solar radiation and cabin heat.
Also had the dealer install window tinting which included a tinted band across the top of the windshield about 7.5 inches tall. Seems to be effective.
I did some research and thanks to JohnnyM's post, now I have a band across the top of the windshield. Not a tint material but a decal. Have some leftover decals from Hankook Motorsports. It actually works quite well. Less sun through the top front of the windshield and definitely less glare.
