Yea, exactly Dan. I've been bothered by this all day. I cannot wait till tomorrow morning when the Smart Center opens so I can get a idea on an aftermarket alarm.

Let me know what they(smart center) have to say since I don`t have an alarm either. Wanted one but as you know too well, orphans come as is.

College students will be college students

I hate to say it Jeff, but an alarm will not solve your problem. The problem is that you drive a car that gets a lot of attention: small, cute, and drunk macho guys hate it. You add to the fact that the car is around thousands of college students and you get a recipe for disaster. I know when I was young and dumb and went to the U, I once threw a couch off of the 5th floor of our dormitory because it was cool and I wanted to test the laws of physics.

Well I'm sure these college students wanted to test their physics theories on this car as well.

I hope students respect your property, but I'm guessing that the next prank might involve your car being put on top of a tree.

Good luck!

My car while in college and after while in the service was a '63 Saab 93 and a couple of times guys who I know did that to me. One time they carried it right up onto the main entrance to the local bowling alley. I had to drive it down a few steps to get back to the parking lot!!

What do you mean the alarm won't work? If the car is moved it will siren, thus the drunks will leave the scene. They won't continue to attempt to move the car with the alarm sounding.

And Smart in a Tree? I cannot imagine that happening.

Be glad you're not at MIT (I'm assuming). Students there have been known to put cars on top of buildings.

Or at University of British Columbia, where they've been known to hang a car or two from the Golden Gate bridge (albeit a bit stripped):

Imagine what these guys could do to your smart?

Well I called Bloomington and they know of an Ultimate Electronics near them that is planning on doing these installs for aftermarket alarms.

I also called Universal City Smart and they quoted me $300-700 for an alarm system (Depends on the features one wants)

Why would they bring a car all the way down here to San Francisco when they could just hang it from the Lion's Gate Bridge?

Jeff, can't believe I missed this. Sorry to hear about your car but not surprised (a lot worse things were happening back when I was in school, and they all had to be done by candle light.) Couple of options - move, or get a bitbull on a long chain and have him sleep under the car.

Moving isn't an option as I live in a college town, if I move off campus I pay 80% of the fall board rate. And I love where I live. We'll see if it happens again...
