No such thing as a stupid question!!!! But now that you drive a smart car your gonna hear some stupid coments like while your putting gas in it, someone someday will ask you if that car is electric?.."Here's your sign"...Life as you know will change now that you own the coolest car on the road, you will love it as we all do...

A quote from my driving instructor: "the only dumb question is the one never asked."
I like that.
As for the dummies at the pump. Tell them about the cars and try not to laugh.
I was asked whether the smart was electric at the pump and I replied "then I wouldn't be here then" when the other fellow replied that he meant hybrid.
So one has to be careful when one makes a statement

I was thinking of attaching part of an extension cord around the tank filler area and let it hang out while pumping gas BUT we're not allowed to pump our own here in OrEgone.
If you can successfully trick the ESP safety feature, you'll be able to burnout!
Sorry to change the subject a little, but this quote threw me.
Jefferios is saying if you can trick the ESP you can do burnouts, does that mean the ESP is always on in the American Smart cars and cannot be switched off?
My British spec Smart Roadster has an ESP button on the centre consol, and if you press it, it turns off the ESP, so you can do all the burnouts and drifting you want, and it is brilliant.
When the ESP is on and working there is a warning triangle in the dash display on the speedo that flashes when it kicks in, showing you it is working, when you switch the ESP off the warning triangle stays on and does'nt flash to let you know it is disabled.
The more I read different threads on here, the more I realise smarts are a good bit different over in The States than in Europe.
Any ideas as to why this is?

Regulations, regulations... too many drivers flipped after losing control: a law was adopted!
Quote:
The United States was next, mandating ESC for all passenger vehicles under 10,000 pounds (4536 kg), phasing in the regulation starting with 55% of 2009 models (effective September 1, 2008), 75% of 2010 models, 95% of 2011 models, and 100% of 2012 models.
ya gotta love someone that knows what they're talking about!

i guess i just don't understand how anyone could buy any car without knowing first if it's "front wheel drive", "rear wheel drive", "diesel or gas", etc.
even though the smart is a relatively inexpensive car, it's still a huge chunk of change to spend without knowing the basics. apparently we pay more attention to what our cell phone can do than the design of our cars.
you see 'impulse buying' at the grocery every day, in the check-out lines and where ever. have we as Americans 'kicked it up a notch' and now are spending over $10K on 'impulse items'?
no wonder the economy is in the toilet.
i appologize for offending anyone.....i'm just shocked that such a question would be asked AFTER the purchase.
When I picked up Dory our dealer spent a good hour going over all the features and facts about the car -- opened the engine compartment, showed me where all the fluids and check-points are located, went over all the dash lights, etc.
Did your dealer not do a walkthrough with you?
