I bought one of these and keep it in the glove box. It'll take care of most puncture type flats; nails, screws, etc. but not large holes or cuts. You can pump the tire back up with the onboard compressor under the passenger floor.

I also bought a Bilstein jack off eBay for an Audi A4, a breaker bar and a 15mm socket, plus a blanket that I keep in the rear hatch cargo area. If needed I can pull the tire and do the repair off the vehicle. Total cost for all that was around $30.
