Similar story on my end. 500 miles, SRS light comes on, once to the dealer.. "loose ground wire" and a 5 minute fix, but the light came back the very next day. Back at Smart Center Alexandria for a driver side seatbelt mechanism. They are "Overnighting" the part....

OOOH JOY.

Will report out the final outcome.

Just for info, I'm picking my smart up this afternoon after its second trip to the dealer for SRS warning light. First time they just reset it, this time they replaced some parts, not sure what yet.

We'll see how long this lasts...

Same thing happened to me: SRS on dash came on after I'd only had it for 2 days! Sigh. Went back to the dealership Thursday, but they couldn't check it out because their diagnostic machine was down. Dammit. So they gave me a rental until things are fixed, and today I found out they are replacing the seat belt. It should hopefully be done on Monday, and luckily my custom floor mats are at the dealership waiting to be picked up too. Looks like it will be a happy Christmas after all!

Seatbelt sensor is connected under the seat

The seat belt fastened/unfastened connector is under each seat. It is a blue plastic 2-wire connector. If it is disconnected or loose, the SRS indicator comes on. Worth checking BEFORE a trip to the dealer. It's tough to reach unless you have small hands. Seat can be unbolted, but requires a star wrench, available at most hardware stores.
My passenger seat belt was defective when I bought the car. No light, but it would not allow movement - just kept cinching tighter and tighter. Then the passenger would unbuckle - and BEEP BEEP until they fastened it again. Very common problem on many cars, not just smarties. Universal smart center in LA replaced the belt under warranty. Pre-ordered it - took a month for it to arrive. Then took the car in, took an hour to replace.
evilution.uk has a mod to silence the alarm beep, but unfortunately on 451's it also makes the SRS light go on(false alarm).
Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia

Good pics of the area though.
Most of the time the light comes on it's the belt - not the airbag. But check those connectors.

Hey Everybody. My light came on at about 5,000 miles. It turned on right after my dealership replaced my seat belt for not retracting all the way in. I don't know if this is a problem for anybody else. Anyhow, it wasn't the seatbelt at all, but I said oh what the heck, I will bring it in again to fix the plastic thing bolted onto the seat that holds the seatbelt. That is when the light came on. I brought it down to my dealership and now they are holding my car. They had to order a whole new passenger seat and a seatbelt assembly. Hopefully, I won't be back for a long time!

I had the same problem a while back luckily it was out by the next day for me. I got lucky and they had that set belt in stock.

My SRS light came on this morning when I started the car. I set up a same-day appointment at smart center Alexandria (always nice, friendly service there).

They found the problem to be an electrical fault with the passenger side seatbelt retractor. Fortunately it was an easy fix and I was back out on the road in an hour and a half.
