Sun roof Tinting

Has anyone tried tinting or using reflective material on the Passions' sun roof ?

Will it work ?

Great idea! I don't know. I 'm gonna ask the dealer about it.

Spoke with a reputable tinting company and was told that they would NOT tint the polycarbonate panoramic Passion roof because the material that it is made of expands and contracts too much in direct sunlight and the tint film would not adhere to the roof properly.

My tint installer did not want to tine my clear roof...even called 3M and they both decided it a bad Idea...

During the install of 35% on the glass I insisted they try....

High quality computer cut piece was installed..... each cool night it would wrinkle and lift...each morning I would squeegee it back flat... one week of that was enough and I peeled the film off.... it never did set to the polycarbonate...and fortunately NO adhesive residue needed cleaning off the poly roof......

Bottom line is I know first hand that film type tints are a waste of time on the Poly roof...

Most of us are using a mechanical solution.... solid opaque silvered mylar film slid on top of the closed sun shade...down side of this method is crinkling noise from wind with windows down

some members got the thin foam core poster board and cut to fit and glued silver reflective film on top.... caution with this method... the sun shade is a delicate device and you can hose it up badly if the foam core board tries to get rolled up in the roller

HTH

I have a question,

Has anyone contacted someone doing wraps? The material used on the outside of buses and other vehicles like our smarts has to have some give to it and a viable adhesive. I'd like to check into a mirrored material (silver or gold) for my licorice colored toys roof.

There are some threads on the wrap issue (search for "wrap") Consensus is the wraps adhere to the car pretty well and may not even be removable without some panel damage. Based on that, not the sort of thing to put on the roof panel unless it's never coming off and you know it can survive the expansion and contraction Fred mentions.

If you want to use a reflective sunshade between the pull shade and the roof it will decrease inside car temps be 10-15*F

I use one of these. It fits not quite perfect, is easy to put in and out between the window and the shade, stores easily and doesn't make any noise. oh and it does an amazing job at heat reduction!

Does it fall down and hit you on the head when you retract the sunshade?

Seems to me the next design change should include making the top of the sunscreen reflective - smart missed it the first time around IMHO.

BINGO!
Can't believe they missed something as simple as an aluminized shade. Of course it's not that sunny in most of Germany...
