That is a great idea. I went to Home "Despot" and got a piece of that aluminized foam board; cut it to shape and shoved it up there. The aluminum reflects a lot of the heat and the foam insulates it wonderfully! My wife thinks I am nuts, but she has no concept of "heat" since she is originally FROM Texas. I, on the other hand, thought that the whole concept behind a "roof" was to keep the elements off of your head!

still no perfectly cut sunshade made?

It's hard to believe, that someone, some company, or even the factory has not made a special item that fits perfectly up there to block out the sun/heat from the roof...

I think all SMART engineers should drive a one of these cars in the desert in Arizona or Socal for few hours instead of the evergreen forests in Europe!

Panoramic Roof Sunshade:

Smartmadness carries a precut roof sunshade that attaches to the underside of the roof with suction cups. You can then close the shade. It is insulated reflectorized material and cuts down on a lot of the heat. They also have sunshades for the windshield, backwindow, and sides windows that are pre-cut to fit the smart.

I know many of you are trying to figure out what shinny surface to put above your sunshade to keep the interior cool. Yes it will keep the interior of the car cooler, But.....

Reflecting the heat comming back at the roof will just make the roof heat up more. Causing it to expand more, At night when it cools down it will contract. Doing this everyday will take its toll on the roof and may be why the roof shade is not shinny on the top. It's most likely by design.

Your best bet is looking for something like the Cal Pop tops when parked and where a Hat in the high sun with the sunshade when driving.

Their is a reson the Passions come with the solid roof option now, and its not just to add headroom.

I agree with forest -- the California Pop Top is 10x more effective than a shade because the windshield is a tremendous heat sink. The plastic roof would superheat from the extra heat reflected from below it, shortening its life. I wonder how that hasn't been an issue in Europe - is it the greater distance to the equator?

My next smart will be a Cabrio for this reason and the fact that I can roll down the top with the remote from 20 feet away. And if it's an ED, even better.
