(...) Surfers out there.. (where hide key?)

There has gotta be more than Cube and I that surf and drive smarts. I have a problem though. Is there any kind of "valet" key/mode of operation for the security system? I usually carry my car key in my boardies, or in my suit, but this is impossible with the smart. I can't leave the key in a bag on the beach either because I already had a close call with my rental car (yaris) this winter. Some homeless people started digging through my bag and i had to surf in and stop them. anyways any ideas would be appreciated.

Don't understand why it's impossible to carry your key in your suit with the smart. Small zip-lock bag, suit with zippered pocket, surf away!

Order a pair of spare key BLADES from your dealer. They aren't nearly as expensive as the black electronic part. The metal blade won't be harmed by salt water. Lock the "real" key in the car while you surf -- the blade will unlock the car but not start it.

If you don't want to spend money on spare blades, just disassemble one of your existing keys like this Evilution how-to.

I can tell that you never surfed.....
Personally I do not think that any zip bag will be airtight for 3-4 hours, because eventually with all the paddling and movement your metal part of the key will make a hole in the plastic. Plus I do not want to have that huge blob up my a** when I am in the lineup.

As stated above only solution is disassemble the spare key. Do not forget to put the key ring on the metal part. It is serving two purposes. One is you can attach the key to the board shorts, and second it is will be impossible to open the door with out it because you will use it as a leverage.

Just put your car in your pocket and take it with you Or, hide your key inside the endtube at the rear of the car or under the front hood somewhere....

Trick is to lock your car with your normal key. Then unlock the rear hatch with the fob by holding the "boot door" open. Your rear glass will open, but the doors will still be closed. Put you normal key in the boot and close the glass.
Now go have fun and try to to encounter any men in the grey suits. :-)

I have one circling me couple weeks ago. I did not paddle that fast in a while!

Maybe somewhere under the front hood as it doesn't lock and most people won't find the latches that hold the hood closed.

Or get one of those lock boxes that the dealers use that hangs on the window and mount it under the hood. I think they use a standard type of key that will last in the water (as long as the Smart key will fit in one of those boxes)

Will not work, at least here in Florida where I go. Because so many surfers and tourists just hiding they keys somewhere on the car (wheel wells, tires, etc.) There is people sitting and waiting in the parking lots to see where is the key and then take all your stuff.

Not a problem. Put the key in a baggie, put baggie in another baggie for extra protection, put your towel and junk on the beach as usual and dig a hole in the sand under one corner of the towel, put baggies with key in hole and cover back with sand. Also mark with a shell or something in case the homeless run off with your towel. Was a priate in a former life!
