Looks like a decent car.....it will be just as hard to get as a Smart was this year.....and will cost more I bet. Glad to see small cars being accepted overall.

Nice post. I don't see any mention of when it will be available in the US?

I would suspect that it would be cheaper than the smart. When was the last time you saw a European car cost less than it's equivalent Japanese version at this end of the market? Also I feel that the smart is overpriced for what one gets.

Without going back and reading the whole thing again, I believe it said something about Jan '09. Don't know if thats when you can order or if they'll be on sale at a dealer(I really doubt that). Slightly less hp than our smarts, a little more room in the rear for 1 adult and 1 child (?). and a variable speed transmission. Smart has really been a good maintenance free new vehicle, but Toyota has a very good reputation for quality and longevity. Going to be interesting...

Garage
Sounds very impressive. Wish they'd had some interior shots. I'll be watching for more information ... like pricing.

Try pricing out a 2009 Yaris 3/dr with auto transmission. NO abs/traction control/ESP at any price.... and it's still more than my pure w/ac/radio!

They already announced price in Europe. I might be wrong who reported it first (I think it was Evilution), but iQ cost is about $3000 more then equivalent configured Smart.

It's also still more car too. 4 seats vs 2....... Not in the same class at all. That's why Toyota is bringing out this new car. As is VW and others, the next few years will be interesting. I wonder what smart has in the pipeline? It is going to be hard to replace a car that so many here think is perfect. Perhaps it will be like the old Beetle and remain in production almost forever?
