Taking My Smart to the Track. Oh yes, yes I am.

Ever since I bought this wonderful auto, I have wanted to track it. Finally, I will be heading to the Streets of Willow Springs Race track in my Smart next week. (it is modeled after canyon roads)

That's the good news. Now the bad/exciting/very strange news is the group I am going with: 2 Ferrari F430s, 2 new M5's, a couple of tricked out Porsche 996 Turbos, a new M3, an Atom (basically a 400 go-kart), couple of corvettes (Z06 included), a twin turbo Z, and the lowliest of the bunch, a BMW 650 and a 335i. (you see my dilemma)

Has anyone tracked a stock Smart? I have searched the forums, but, to no avail.

I am somewhat very very excited. The smart will be fun on a streets type track. But I am not sure it will be exciting for an entire 8 hour day. any input? experience? well-wishing?

Thank you.

Dont know if this qualifies as "experience", but have a look nonetheless:
Our Smart on the Race Track at Infineon Raceway +Performance Parts Development
My Smart Car on the Race Track!!
And enjoy both, the look, and the day at the track!

Get one of those camera 'stands' that 'stick' the window and put a video camera on it. It would be neat to see the video.

There was another post here where one of our long-time members raced their Smart in a group of Smarts... the leaders mostly used auto mode. I think when it comes down to it, the computer will shift faster and maintain a higher overall speed, but in manual mode you let up on the gas and think it's faster but in reality the only thing that's faster is the time between gears; the wheels are slowing down to make the shift more comfortable.

I'd be curious to see if this theory's accurate through real testing.

SoW should be ok for Smart car. Nice little track.

I am working on gathering Smarts in the So Cal region for a AutoX in June.
