I have regularly taken mine to shows for the last year (+). A year ago they stole the show, now they only get LOTS AND LOTS of attention. Depending on your location expect the normal "what if you get hit by a semi" and "I would be caught dead in one those death traps." type of comments. That being said, 95%+ is all positive reactions.

I've found that a lot of females that are dragged caveman style to the show by their boyfriend "Ug" end up getting VERY enthused about the cars and it makes the show a bit more fun for them. If you aren't a "trophy hound" then I would encourage you to do what I do. Let plenty of people sit in it - OLD PEOPLE LOVE IT! (no offense some of you guys & gals ). Also a lot of people ask for pictures so I offer up for them to even sit inside for a photo opportunity.

All that being said, I have been attending shows regularly all my life with an assortment of cars and the Smart has been the funnest to bring. Lately the classics have resided in our garage and are barely driven anymore except to "Classic Only" shows.

I've taken mine to lots of shows. The only trouble I've had is they don't know what class to put it in. That, and I have a hard time getting away from all the questions to see the other cars. I haven't even thought about my chopper that I spent $35,000 on parts and 1000hrs of labor building, since I got the smart.

Every Saturday during spring, summer, and fall at the local classic rollerskate diner called Dog n' Suds, there's a classic car show. Owners set up shop by opening their doors, trunks, hoods, etc. and setting up a lounge chair next to their ride. People will walk around and take pictures and ask questions. If the owner is nice enough they'll let you sit in it. When I get my smart I plan to go there and set up shop myself. The only difference is that it's not a 1970's GT500!

Well, looks like I won't be going. Called the organizer today and asked about entering my Smart. I got flat out rejected. The show is actually part of a town wide festival here, but doesn't look like they want any foreign autos as this is to be a "Patriotic Memorial Day Event" and that nothing but "merican!" cars were allowed.

This is something that they did not mention on the registration form, flyers, etc. When I protested I was simply hung up on. My neighbor across the street also got his 78' Porsche 924 rejected. Needless to say a lot of local owners of foreign classics and oddities are pissed. This is a huge car town where almost everyone seems to have a toy on four wheels.

Sounds believable and completely understandable for their reasoning. Be patient, another local show will come along in a few weeks. The no foreign cars thing I understand for this particular case. Now if they won't let anyone in that LOOKS foreign, that'll be another story......
