Tax Credit?

Has any one heard if there will be a tax credit offered, similar to the electric and hybrid cars? Seems only fair.

Canada offer a $2,000 (Canadian Dollars) rebate. . .

The Smart Car is not an alternative energy vehicle, so there is no legislation that would give it a tax incentive .

old thread, but still relevant. NYTimes and MotorWeek both reviewed GM Tahoe Hybrid recently.

Tahoe: 20 mpg. $2,200.00 tax credit.
smart: nada

There you have it - focused on technology (don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of hybrids, etc) instead of results (let's reward an SUV that gets 20 mpg instead of the smart getting 41 mpg). At least our credit union has the good sense to knock down their auto loans rates for high mpg cars.

You may want to check and see if CA has any local incentives.

CT waives the Sales Tax on any vehicle that exceeds 40MPG highway, so that saved me about $1100
