Technical explanation of Transmission?

Anyone here have a more thorough explanation of the inner workings of this transmission - I can find very little about it.

Also - anyone have any idea how much the clutch and flywheel weigh and their approximate diameter? I'm curious as to how the car would react to some lightened pieces in there.

That picture doesn't look like any of the automated 5-speeds on the Getrag site.
How stuff works and wikipedia have nothing on it.

I would love to see the Smart come with a regular 5-spd.

Automated Sequential Transaxle

I belive is the correct way to describe it, wow what a mouthful.
one of my favorite thing about the car makes it possible to share it with my souse who feels that if she needs to operate three pedals would have three legs. I like her just fine as she is.

I think that Getrag calls it an AMT - Automated Manual Transmission, but they have a few of them, not clear to me which one it is.

My spouse also prefers an automatic, but I'll be the one commuting with it, and a 5-speed just seems more efficient and more fun to drive.

It is a 5 speed manual and it is optimized to provide maximum efficiency. All of my personal rides have been mauals with the exception of trucks (tools) and I find just listening to lil Booger work thru the gears gives me a great deal of pleasure. I had thought that the paddles would be the only way to make the car interesting, I was wrong.
