technician (battery)

Needed A new battery after two years but car is a 2005 model. In doing my research it seems people are recomending some batteries that are not fit for this application. Make sure you use a battery that keeps the external vent in place as you really dont want to dump those fumes into the cabin. In a worst case the fumes are a perfect mixture of oxygen and hydrogen witch can be quite explosive. Alway side on safety not cost. When the new batteries arrive i will report on the brand and part# that is correct

I would look for a sealed battery as checking and adding distilled water is a pain and most people will not do this.

battery

Most battery are sealed but vent to the outside ,when battery is in the interior compartment it MUST be vented to the outside, usually by a vinal hose. I have not found any agm batteries that will fit in this car,but i do have three different brands of batteries ordered any will confirm them for there fitness with all .

Has anyone checked to see if the Optima or Odyssy Battery will fit a Smart? They are expensive but you don't have to worry about adding water. They also work better in extreme heat and cold and last at least twice as long if not longer then a regular battery.

They are an AGM type and under "normal" charging conditions absorb the hydrogen they produce can you guarantee the car will never overcharge it?
Remember an MG that had me literally sitting on a pair of lead acid batteries. Like having the kids loose in the back of the family station wagon. Things you don't see much any more. Figure there may be a reason?

Does anyone know what the battery series is? Don't know if series is the right word, but it is the two digit number that is for the size and polarity. Or does anyone have a pic?

i've used Exide Orbital AGM batteries in my jeep very successfully for many years. the primary advantage being their durability, resistance to leak, resilience, and the ability to mount them in any position.
i have no idea if they make a size to fit the smart. i don't see the smart really needing one. but if you did use one that was applicable, i personally wouldn't worry about overcharging it.

I replaced my battery with an Optima Redtop34/78. Bought at Sams Club No vent necessary, it is sealed. 10"L - 6 7/8"W - 7 13/16"H.

800cc amps (0 deg F). 6 yr Warranty, 36mo free replacement - 36 MO pro rat.

Fits Batt box perfectly. POS cable long enough. NEG cable moved to alternate position provided by Mercedes for reversed posts. No mod to hold-down.

PM for any questions. I have a 2006 450 Mk Fortwo
