There are 2 Smarts at the dealer auctions tomorrow.

In the Bay Area, CA.

I went down to check them out since I had to sell mine (Long story having to do with finances and timing) and need to pick one or two up for my new business... anyhow, I found these two and they are both listed as Passions but when I got down there to see them they were actually Pures. With no AC...

some dealers are going to pay waaaaaaay too much for them tomorrow... and it won't be me.

One sold for $17400, the other for $17900... this is before auction yard fees of a couple hundred each or so... then you have to try to sell it at a profit.

To me that's too much...

its all about supply and demand. The dealers are and will get more then what they paid for them. Trust me next year these cars are going up in price. Its inevitable...look at the Mazda Miata for an example...when it furst came out it was sold for 12,000 now the basic model goes for well over 20,000....mark my words..those that wait will be paying a pretty penny either way.

A car dealer friend of mine called me from the Houston auction today to ask what my smart cost. There was a smart going thru the auction with no A/C. It was up for $20,000 but didn't sell.

In April I bought a fully loaded cabriolet - fogs, tach/clock, alarm, comfort package, etc. - from a dealer who had bought it at auction. The car was in perfect condition and had about 550 miles on it. I was even able to get the entire history of the car from the original smart dealer. The dealer agreed to set up a BIN auction on eBay (so I'd get the $50,000 eBay protection) and sent me copies of the original bill of sale, window sticker, lots of pictures, etc. before I sent any money. I then sent a deposit, and paid the balance after the car was delivered on an auto transport from California to my little town in southeastern Arizona (I picked it up at the local Burger King). At $20,000 total, I think I got a really good deal - and the deal is looking better and better all the time.

Sounds like my Pure that just hit the local port. Only options I ordered 14 months ago were metallic paint and A/C. I should be "out the door" for a tad over $14K with tax/tags/destination fee.
