These cars are LOUD inside. Anyone have noise reduction?

I'm noticing that when I arrive home after my 90-minute drives, my ears are ringing. I don't listen to my audiobooks or music too loudly -- in fact, I've been turning the volume down to as low as I can, etc. And I drive pretty slowly, too, on a quiet highway. Nonetheless, when I get home, my head is a bit frazzled. And I have a really long drive coming up with my son in a few weeks (1250 miles each way). I don't want us to go deaf.

I've seen that some of us have gotten noise reduction material put into their cars. I checked out some site (I forget). The material is expensive, tho there is a range, and of course installation is going to be expensive (since I'm not a do-it-yourselfer) and time-consuming.

I wonder:
1. How long does it take? I leave in 12 days.
2. Can you at least temporarily 'install' some sound-proofing on the floor of the car, and if so, does it make a big difference?
3. What did you pay?

Thanks, gang!

Loud? Really? Maybe I'm just old and deaf. I don't think it's any more noisy than my '03 Corolla I gave up for it.

For a quick sound reduction, just get one of those foam "fatigue mats" they use for stand-up workstations. Cut it to fit, and either put it on top of the mat over the engine, or if it's thin enough, slide it between the metal engine cover and the floor mat.

Helps immensely

Certainly not any louder than my Boxter.

Maybe he has a cabriolet and doesn't know the top closes...

Aren't you concerned that the extra weight would affect your mileage? Not meaning to be sarcastic, but what about a pair of the light weight foam earplugs such as we use at shooting ranges. It cuts the sound level but you could still talk to your passenger.

I think sunny has the right Idea. Get yourself a second layer of somthing that goes over the rear storage area and down behind the seats. With the time you have left before that long trip, I think that will give you the best shhh for the $$.

I used cascadeaudio.com products: V-MAX for the door skins (#1 best bet) and the interior pan (more improvement) as well as I-12 Thermo-Acoustic Blanket to go behind the seats over the engine.

If you have the product shipped to your installer, they may provide it at wholesale as they did the last batch I ordered from them (shipped to Smart Center Protland). The 20-piece "bulk pack" of V-MAX and one sheet of I-12 was what I used.

It's a little slower for the cheap shipping to NY compared to my corner of the same state but it's good product and a great price (in my opinion) if you get it for wholesale.
