The things people say!!!

Well, I got my smart on Tuesday and have gotten tons of comments. Here's a few.
1. A lady was looking all around it and said "I'm looking for where it plugs in."
2. A guy said, "I guess it's street legal."
3. Another guy said he was looking for the big wind up key.
4. One guy said he could give me a push to get started.
5. Tons of "Neat" or "Cute" car
6. One guy said, "What the heck is that?" I said a smart car. He said, "how much is it?" I said they go for about 16. He said 16 hundred? I said no 16 thousand. He said, "FOR THAT???!!! Is it worth it? It's awful little."
7. Everybody asks if it is electric.
8. Lots of rubber neckers on the road.
9. My all time favorite. I stopped to get gas. Filled it up. Went in the store and the lady said she was looking at the little car. I said that it was mine and that was the first time I filled it up with gas. She asked me how much gas it held. I told her about 7.5 gallons. Then, get this, she asked, "Is it 'lectric?" I should have said, "If it is, I just ruined the motor putting gas in it."

Seems like your hearing the same things we all are. I don't have mine yet, but my husband has his and he gets asked all the same stuff.

I think some of the comments we hear are the musings of people trying to make sense of a changing world. The "drive a big car with room for everyone and everything" mentality has been given an alternative. Keep it simple, drive what you need, spend less on gas and make less of an impact on the world (on resources if not in style) may be the wave of the future. Welcome to our world, the smart world.

Well said Rm. I see it in their faces up here in Michigan. Many comments come from auto workers. The engineers love it. The others are not so sure.

The City of Detroit is crumbling. The state Government is frozen. Jobs are evaporating. Many people in Michigan are upside down on their houses, and their gas guzzling truck/suvs. There is no money to spare and many are running on their credit cards.

We try not to rub it in with our Smart, and try to engage the negative folks in a discussion on the curiosity of such a tiny car.

I grew up in Michigan, Lansing, and my family still live there so I'm hoping that something good happens for Michigan. It's a beautiful state. We thought about moving back to be close to family but finding a job, or not finding one, kinda stopped me.

I how I wish again, that I was in Michigan, down on the farm, I love the rooster, they way he use-ter wake me up at 4am, down on the farm with the mild maid (okay it's really milk pail) on my arm.
