Thinking about buying a Smart Car; what other cars did you consider?

Hey all,

I'm really interested buying a Smart Car but I'm curious--what other cars did you consider buying when you were shopping around? And what was the ultimate factor that made you choose a Smart Car over, say, a Mini or a Scion IQ?

Trying to get a sense of what else is out there, etc.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome! This may help get you started: If you could, what micro car would you buy and why?

When I bought my '08 there really wasn't anything else close to the smart to consider other than the MINI. But, at 6'2" 285 lbs, I don't fit in a MINI...

Here's another thread asking existing owners what vehicles they would consider replacing the smart with if they couldn't buy another smart: If all smarts were whisked away by aliens...

i considered a lincoln MKX.

there is nothing else in it's class. when i laid eyes on her i fell in love !
nothing else compares.

good luck in your decison. even tho she was towed 10 minutes ago, i still wouldn't want anything else other than her. she's fun, she makes my day complete, and any bad mood I am ever in when I get in to drive, it just washes away. it's alot like Herbie the love bug, she likes to drive fast, and she likes to take the long way. this car has a personality like no other car i have ever had.

when I bought the grand caravan. no one turned their head to smile at me, no one asked about it, no one wanted to see it, and no one wanted a ride in it, just to take a look.

this one, people just smile as I drive by. it's a feeling like no other I enjoy going to the stupid grocery store now. I don't mind making an extra trip to go anywhere.

@jwight - Thanks--I read through that thread. I guess I'm more curious as to why you guys chose to get a Smart Car over some of the other options.

@rfernett and Stella503 - Thanks for the responses and the link to that thread. Isn't it crazy how for some people the car buying process is totally rational (e.g. "I can't fit in that car!") and for others it's so emotional?

There you go - if point A to point B is all that matters, the smart probably isn't the best choice. If having fun and picking the smart keys over the Corvette keys when you head out the door matters, then the smart may be for you.

PS - what's this "@" stuff anyway?

@jwight: I'm not a Facebooker. But, I sometimes use the device to draw attention to a reply. I even bold the handle sometimes.
